Positive Name Use

QUICK TIP!

Always say your dog's name positively.

There are two ways people can use their dog's name; to call them, or to scold them for doing something naughty.

In fact, your dog is much more likely to respond to a positive name call which makes their parent much more motivating and exciting than other surrounding distractions, environments and stimuli. A positive voice with the promise of reward and praise for recall and regained focus is much more attractive than an annoyed or loud shout with only a telling off waiting for them at the other end.

This way, your dog learns that when they hear their name, good things are going to happen when they follow it back to the person calling them, allowing you combat distractions and keep concentration.
